“People of Basking Ridge” Writing Contest!

In celebration of our town and its people, we’re asking any local students (6th-12th grade) to submit a written piece about a fellow Basking Ridge adult resident, spotlighting their life story! It could be your neighbor, your teacher, your mailman, a local business owner, artist, athlete… or otherwise anyone with a captivating tale worth sharing.

Submissions will be judged based on:

1. Narrative Voice—Is the writing lively and engaging, with a clear perspective, personality, and authentic tone?

2. Originality/Freshness—Does the piece create a memorable and "complex" portrait of an interesting character, or uncover a unique "hidden gem" about their life?

3. Structure & Flow—Is the piece technically well-organized in whatever way it needs to clarify its message?

4. Boldness—Is the piece daring? Did you interview a stranger? Did you leave your realm of comfort in some way to discover something new?

*NOTE: Absolutely no AI or parental assistance!

HOW TO ENTER: Submissions can be sent to finchwritingclub@gmail.com in the form of an essay, poem, or creative nonfiction. Please provide your name and grade! All entries will be featured in a special edition Finch Magazine.
