Finch Magazine
To help our students understand what it means to write for an audience, we compile and publish Finch Magazine twice a year—a student anthology featuring original work from our 3rd through 12th-grade cohorts.
The magazine introduces young writers to the exciting lifecycle of publishing. Throughout the term, kids learn to shape their ideas, experiment with vocabulary, and polish their drafts. Because every writer moves at their own pace, the magazine captures their authentic growth—whether their contribution is a completed short story, a standalone script, or an excerpt from a larger work in progress.
Knowing their words will be printed in a real book gives kids a tangible incentive to focus on their mechanics and take pride in their ideas. They leave the term not just with loose papers, but with physical evidence of what they are capable of achieving.
Introducing FINCH: Our Flagship Literary Journal
Give Your Student the Opportunity to Become a Published Author!
Finch Writing Club is proud to announce a major milestone: FINCH, our premier, invitation-only literary journal, has officially been assigned an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN). Launching in 2027, FINCH will showcase exceptional work by a select group of Finch's advanced student writers. Publication is by invitation only, based on each student's command of writing craft, distinctive voice, and commitment to revision and editing.
What Does This Mean for our Students?
An ISSN is an internationally recognized identifier for a serial publication, like a literary journal. Having one formally identifies FINCH as a publication and reflects our commitment to established publishing standards. For students selected to contribute, it means their work will appear in a formally identified literary journal they can cite in their portfolios, writing samples, and resumes.
